What is confirmed about CRM, Sales and POS in Odoo 20?

Odoo has scheduled six separate sessions across the quote to cash path in version 20. Add the April partner briefing and a reasonably clear picture emerges of where the selling side is going.

Odoo 20 is released at Odoo Experience Americas in San Francisco on 2 and 3 September 2026, where Odoo says the new version “will be released during the event”. The European launch follows at Odoo Experience in Brussels on 24 to 26 September 2026, where Fabien Pinckaers unveils it in the opening keynote.

On the customer facing side, the Experience 2026 agenda confirms six sessions: CRM, Sales, POS Retail, Sign, Rental and Shipping Methods. That breadth is itself the signal. Odoo is not concentrating this release on one module, it is touching the whole path from lead to delivered order.

The April 2026 Partner Day briefing, as reported, adds detail the agenda does not: variant pricing management, automated cross-selling, return management and marketing automation triggers. We label those Partner Day rather than confirmed, because Odoo has not published them itself.

This is part two of an eight part series on Odoo 20 by business function.

How to read this article

We label every claim by how well sourced it is. Confirmed means Odoo has published it, on its release notes, its event pages or its conference agenda. Partner Day means Odoo briefed its partner network on it in April 2026 and it has been reported, but Odoo has not published it directly. Unverified means it is circulating without a traceable source. Nothing here is presented as fact unless we can point you at where it came from.

What has Odoo confirmed for CRM and Sales?

Confirmed. Two separate sessions, “What is new in CRM?” and “What is new in Sales?”, with different presenters. Neither has a published abstract.

The fact that they are separate sessions with separate presenters is worth something. When a release only touches shared plumbing, one session usually covers both. Two suggests distinct work on the pipeline side and on the quotation side.

The wider agenda gives a second read. Several sessions cover AI applied to selling, including turning ERP into a proactive sales tool and improving presales flows. Odoo is clearly pushing intelligence toward the pipeline. Whether that lands in standard version 20 or stays partner territory has not been stated.

For a mid-market sales team the question worth holding is not which fields moved. It is whether quotation configuration, approval routing and margin visibility got easier, because that is where deals actually stall. A salesperson waiting two days for a discount approval loses more revenue than one with a slightly worse dashboard.

In practice: A UAE distributor quoting a complex order

A building materials distributor in Sharjah quotes 40 to 60 line orders with customer-specific pricing, volume breaks and mixed lead times. This is where quotation tooling either helps or gets in the way.

  1. The salesperson builds a quotation of 45 lines. Roughly 30 are repeat items for this customer, so pricelist accuracy determines whether they are priced correctly without manual intervention. Variant pricing, reported from Partner Day, would touch this directly.
  2. Twelve lines need a discount beyond standard authority, triggering approval. If approval routing is slow or unclear, the quote sits. This is the single biggest source of lost time in most B2B Odoo sales processes.
  3. Eight lines are not in stock and need a lead time commitment, requiring the quotation to reflect real availability rather than an optimistic default.
  4. Once won, the order should generate the right delivery split and the right invoicing schedule without someone rebuilding it manually.

Watch the approval and availability steps rather than the AI headlines when the detail lands. Those are where the measurable time goes.

Insight

Be sceptical of AI claims in sales tooling specifically. A demo that drafts a follow-up email is impressive on stage and marginal in practice. A change that stops your team rebuilding the same 45 line quotation for the fifth time is worth far more and gets far less airtime.

What is changing in Point of Sale?

Confirmed. “What is new in POS Retail?” is on the agenda, supported by customer sessions on scaling past 50 points of sale and on restaurant self ordering.

POS is one of the areas Odoo has visibly invested in across recent versions, and the agenda leans retail and hospitality rather than purely technical. One confirmed customer session covers scaling past fifty points of sale internationally, another covers real time retail across eighteen stores.

For Gulf and Indian retailers the questions that decide a rollout are consistent and rarely the ones demonstrated on stage. Does the POS keep selling when the connection drops, and reconcile cleanly when it returns. Does the receipt meet local tax presentation requirements. Does stock at the store agree with stock in the warehouse at the end of a trading day.

Those are the things that determine whether store twenty works as well as store one. A feature list will not tell you. A reference customer running your store count in your country will.

What is reported about pricing, cross-selling and returns?

Partner Day, not confirmed by Odoo. Reported items include variant pricing management, automated cross-selling and return management.

Variant pricing is the most consequential of these for anyone selling configurable products. If you sell the same item in six sizes and four finishes, pricing every combination correctly is a genuine data management problem, and one Odoo has historically handled adequately rather than elegantly.

Return management matters disproportionately in eCommerce and in any business with warranty obligations. A return is not simply a reversed sale. It involves inspection, restocking or scrapping, credit note generation and sometimes replacement, and each of those touches a different module.

Automated cross-selling sits closer to marketing than sales operations, and its value depends entirely on whether the recommendation logic is sensible or merely present.

What about contracts, Sign and Rental?

Confirmed. Sign has its own session. Rental has four separate sessions, which is unusual for a single module.

Four sessions on Rental covering new features, pricing and margin, specialised workflows and long term contracts is a strong signal. When Odoo gives a module that much conference time it is usually building toward an industry package rather than shipping isolated improvements.

That is directly relevant to equipment, machinery and vehicle rental businesses across India and the Gulf, where the accounting treatment of a long term rental contract is usually the first thing to break in a generic ERP.

On Sign, electronic signature has quietly moved from convenience to part of the standard cycle. Having the signed document attached to the same record as the quotation and the invoice removes an entire class of dispute, and in the UAE it matters for both customer contracts and vendor onboarding.

What is changing in shipping and delivery?

Confirmed. “What is new in Shipping Methods?” covers carrier configuration and delivery options.

Shipping configuration consumes an unreasonable amount of time in cross border operations. Rate calculation, carrier connections, and the persistent gap between what a customer is charged and what the carrier actually bills.

As with bank feeds in accounting, the question that matters locally is coverage rather than capability. Whether your carrier is supported in your country is more important than what changed in the engine, and that answer varies enormously between the Gulf, India and Europe.

How should a sales operation prepare?

Clean the pipeline, document the quotation logic, and audit which customisations exist to fill gaps that standard Odoo may have since closed.

CRM upgrades rarely fail because of the software. They fail because the pipeline contains three years of stages nobody uses, duplicate contacts from an import that was never deduplicated, and a lead scoring rule configured for a product line that no longer exists.

The customisation question is the expensive one. If your quotation template, approval flow or pricelist logic was custom built on version 17 or 18, check whether standard Odoo now covers it. Several things partners were paid to build two years ago now ship in the box, and every line of custom code you carry is revalidated at every upgrade.

The other preparation worth doing is unglamorous: confirm your integrations have maintained connectors for the version you are moving to. Payment providers, shipping carriers, WhatsApp, and any local tax or invoicing connector. These break more often and more quietly than the core application.

Size the move before the keynote

Work out what a rollout or upgrade costs for your team, size the infrastructure it runs on, and see which add-ons cover the gaps in standard Odoo.

For the current state of Odoo sales tooling rather than the version outlook, we have written about how sales teams close more without hiring more, covering WhatsApp and AI in the Indian market as they work today.

Part three covers supply chain, manufacturing and quality, where the largest concentration of confirmed Odoo 20 work sits.

Frequently asked questions

What is confirmed about CRM in Odoo 20?

A session titled “What is new in CRM?” appears on the official Odoo Experience 2026 agenda, with a separate session for Sales. Odoo has not published the contents of either.

When is Odoo 20 released?

At Odoo Experience Americas in San Francisco on 2 and 3 September 2026, with the European launch in Brussels from 24 to 26 September 2026.

Is Odoo 20 improving product variant pricing?

Reported from the April 2026 Partner Day briefing rather than confirmed by Odoo. Variant pricing management, automated cross-selling and return management were all reported from that briefing.

Is Odoo Rental getting a significant update?

Rental has four separate sessions on the agenda covering new features, pricing and margin, specialised workflows and long term contracts. That is an unusually high allocation for one module.

Should we wait for Odoo 20 before implementing?

Generally no. Plan against what exists today and treat new version features as upside. Deferring a needed implementation on the expectation of an unannounced feature carries real cost if it does not arrive in the form you expect.
